Here are a few pictures of various trips and some of the better pictures that have been taken on the trips. Needless to say the new Fuji camera has a lot to do with the improved quality.

On the QE2 in 2006

We weren't going to go on a cruise but spend money on the house instead. Sadly, whilst sat in a cafe one day across from a travel agents we saw this deal to have 5 nights on the QE2 at a very good price. One day the QE2 won't be around any more so we did it. (We really regret never going on Concorde which is no more). The cruise went to Bilbao, La Rochelle and St Peter Port. It was the first time the QE2 had been to Bilbao and it looked like it was the first time a cruise ship had ever been to the new port. Hence the crowds.

Looe 2006

A very popular holiday destination for us is Looe. We stayed again at the Dolphin Hotel which is a superb place providing excellent service and overlooks the river. It takes you all of 30 seconds to walk into town. Peter and Jean Cox could not have been more helpful.

We had some good weather and some mixed weather. Okay it bucketed on the first night. The pictures below are of Looe, Polruan and Fowey. It is the last picture that provided the banner for this site. Of course we visited the Eden project. Unfortunately so did everyone else in Cornwall that day :-(

When the sun is out then paddling on the beach is great. You can then head for a pasty shop. Even better in Looe is the fact that the pasty shops and coffee shops combine. Take a book and enjoy the simple pleasures.

Magdeburg 2006

I was very fortunate to visit Magdeburg on business this year. Magdeburg is around 200km South West of Berlin in the old East Germany. The trip was very eventful with visiting 4 different airports in one day. The first being Heathrow where I spent a couple of hours sat out on the tarmac as Frankfurt was shrouded in fog. As the fog cleared the pilot announced that there was a fault with the plane and they returned to the stand. Eventually the pilot announced that as a last resort they were going to power down the plane to try and clear the fault. I can report that it worked and the plane got us there!

Here are some pictures of the area around the hotel. It was very pretty as they are spending an enormous amount of money rebuilding the place. Everywhere you go buildings are being renovated. I have included some examples of work in progress. I photographed some workmen laying a new road and one of them came over to talk to me. It dawned on me, belatedly as always, that this is a country that essentially spied on itself so taking pictures of people is something that probably isn't done except by official photographers
